What call history data Vodafone actually stores

Before diving into the steps, it helps to understand what is available. Vodafone UK keeps a record of calls made and received on your account, including the date, time, duration, and number dialled or received. This data appears in your itemised billing and in the usage summary inside the My Vodafone app.

Ofcom rules on bills and charges confirm that UK mobile operators are required to provide itemised billing on request, so you have a formal right to this information as a Vodafone customer.

Note that Vodafone does not store the content of calls or text messages, only the metadata (numbers, times, durations). SMS text content is not retrievable through any Vodafone channel.

How to check call history in the My Vodafone app

The My Vodafone app (available on iOS and Android) is the quickest route to recent usage data on a mobile. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the My Vodafone app on your phone and sign in with your Vodafone ID email and password.
  2. From the home screen, tap My Usage or the Usage tile. The label may vary slightly depending on your app version.
  3. You will see a breakdown of calls, texts, and data for your current billing period.
  4. To view individual call entries, look for a View details or See all link beneath the calls summary. Tap it to expand the full list.
  5. Each entry shows the date, time, duration, and the number called or received.
  6. Use the billing period selector (usually arrows or a dropdown at the top of the screen) to switch between previous months.

If you cannot locate the Usage section, tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner, then select My account, and then Check usage.

For help with the app itself, Vodafone’s My Vodafone app support page covers common troubleshooting steps.

How to check call history online via My Vodafone

If you prefer a larger screen or need to download or print your records, the online account portal offers more detail than the app.

  1. Go to vodafone.co.uk and click Sign in at the top right.
  2. Enter your Vodafone ID (the email address registered to your account) and password.
  3. Once logged in, navigate to My account, then Bills and payments.
  4. Select a bill from the list. Each monthly bill includes an itemised breakdown of all calls made during that period.
  5. You can view the bill on screen or download it as a PDF for your records.
  6. For a dedicated itemised bill view, Vodafone also provides an itemised billing section where you can enable or download detailed call logs.

Business account holders and those managing a Vodafone family plan can select a specific line from the account dashboard before viewing usage, allowing them to check call history for individual numbers on the account.

How to check call history on your phone’s native dialler

The My Vodafone app shows network-level billing data. Your phone’s own dialler app holds a separate, on-device log of calls, which is often easier to access quickly.

On an iPhone (iOS):

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap Recents at the bottom of the screen.
  3. By default you see all recent calls. Tap Missed to filter to missed calls only.
  4. Tap the information icon (a circle with an “i”) next to any entry to see the full call time and date.
  5. To see calls older than those shown, scroll down. iPhone stores a limited number of recent calls on-device; older entries may no longer appear.

On an Android phone:

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap Recents or the clock icon, depending on your Android version or manufacturer skin.
  3. Tap a contact or number to see all recent calls with that person, or scroll the full list.
  4. Some Android devices allow you to filter by missed, incoming, or outgoing calls using a filter icon at the top of the screen.

Bear in mind that the on-device log only covers the phone itself. If your SIM has been used in another handset, those calls will not appear in the current phone’s native dialler but will still appear in your Vodafone account billing data.

How to request an itemised bill or full call log from Vodafone

If the app or online account does not show the records you need, for example because you need data older than 12 months or you require a formal document, you can contact Vodafone directly.

  • By phone: Call 191 free from a Vodafone mobile, or 03333 040 191 from any other phone. Ask the adviser for an itemised bill for the relevant period.
  • Live chat: Available via vodafone.co.uk by clicking the chat icon, typically active during business hours.
  • In store: Any Vodafone retail store can raise an account request on your behalf.

Be aware that paper itemised bills sent by post may carry an administration charge under some Vodafone plans. Downloading the PDF version from your online account is free.

As noted above, Ofcom guidance confirms your right to itemised billing, so Vodafone is obliged to provide this information.

What to do if call history data appears incomplete or incorrect

If your call history looks wrong, for example, calls are missing or you see calls you do not recognise, there are a few steps to take.

For missing data: refresh the app, log out and back in, or try viewing the same period via the online account portal instead. Data sometimes takes 24 to 48 hours after a call to appear in billing records.

For calls you do not recognise: this could indicate that your account has been accessed without authorisation. In that case, change your Vodafone ID password immediately and contact Vodafone on 191 to report the concern. If you suspect fraud, you can also report it to Action Fraud (0300 123 2040), the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime.

For billing disputes relating to call charges, Citizens Advice provides free guidance on your rights, and Ofcom’s complaints process outlines what to do if you cannot resolve the issue directly with Vodafone.
