iOS 17 Update Impacts Battery Life of Older iPhones
Apple recently released iOS 17, its latest operating system, packed with new features and enhancements. However, not all iPhone models can be upgraded to this version. The compatibility list includes popular models like iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, iPhone 11, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone SE 3, and iPhone SE 2. Unfortunately, older models such as iPhone X and earlier iterations will not receive support for iOS 17.

Battery Drain Issue for Older iPhones

While iOS 17 introduces exciting improvements, it has led to battery life issues for some iPhone users. Following the update, many users have reported a significant decrease in battery performance. In response to these concerns, iAppleBytes conducted a thorough power consumption test on older iPhones that were updated to iOS 17.

The test involved five different iPhone models: iPhone SE 2, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13. Using Geekbench's battery test feature, iAppleBytes discovered that all these older models experienced reduced battery life after the update. Notably, iPhone 13 and iPhone XR suffered the most significant declines in charge-to-charge duration, with iPhone XR showing the poorest battery performance since the introduction of iOS 14.
New Dental and Biomaterials Testing Service Launched in BirminghamTo provide a visual comparison of battery life across different iOS versions, iAppleBytes created a detailed chart. The chart displays the actual battery life of the mentioned models from iOS 15 to iOS 17. Based on this data and the reported battery issues, it is advisable for users who haven't updated to iOS 17 to stay on iOS 16.7 to avoid potential battery complications. Apple is likely aware of the problem and may address it in future updates to ensure all iPhone models deliver an optimal user experience.
