In a statement posted on Le Gavroche's website, Roux explained, "This decision has not been made lightly. Le Gavroche means so much, not only to myself and the Roux family, but also to our wider team and our loyal guests, who have become like family over the years."

Roux added, "While Le Gavroche continues to be fully booked week after week, I have recognized the need for a better work-life balance. I want to devote more time to my family and other business ventures."

Leading up to the closure, Le Gavroche will host a series of celebratory dinners, starting in November. These events will feature appearances from family members and familiar faces who have played a significant role in the restaurant's success. Le Gavroche holds a special place in the culinary world, having launched the careers of renowned chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Marco Pierre White, and Marcus Wareing.

The restaurant's staff will undergo redundancy consultations in the coming weeks, with The Caterer reporting that Le Gavroche will provide financial support for those who do not qualify for redundancy.

Le Gavroche, which opened its doors in Sloane Square in 1967, was one of the pioneers of the sophisticated culinary scene in London. Founded by Michel Roux Sr and Albert Roux, the restaurant played a crucial role in introducing classic French cuisine to the capital.

Over the years, Le Gavroche garnered high praise from critics and became a trailblazer in the world of London gastronomy. It was one of the first restaurants in the UK to earn a Michelin star in 1974, followed by a second star in 1977. In 1982, after relocating to its current location in Mayfair's Upper Brook Street, Le Gavroche became the first restaurant in Britain to achieve the prestigious three-star rating.

Roux Jr, who took over Le Gavroche in 1991, ensured the restaurant maintained its two Michelin stars and consistently secured a place on the world's top 50 restaurant list.

Addressing concerns about the end of the Le Gavroche brand, Roux Jr reassured, "The name will live on, as will the Roux dynasty. There will be Le Gavroche pop-ups and events in the future, both in the UK and abroad."
