Film director David Yates has confirmed that the Harry Potter spin-off franchise, Fantastic Beasts, has been put on hold after the release of the third film in the series, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Yates, who also directed the last four Harry Potter movies, stated that the series has been "parked" for now. The third film in the Fantastic Beasts series, which explored the complicated relationship between Grindelwald and Albus Dumbledore, was the least successful of the trilogy. However, despite the pause in the franchise, Yates expressed that he would never rule out returning to the Harry Potter world in the future. He also mentioned that he is excited about working on other non-wizard related projects.

It is worth noting that HBO has previously announced the development of a Harry Potter TV series, which will retell the iconic seven-book series on the small screen.

Overall, while Fantastic Beasts has been put on hold, fans can still look forward to new projects within the Harry Potter universe and potentially see David Yates return to the magical world in the future.
