In season 1, episode 10, "Prime Factors," the Voyager crew encounters the Sikarians, a race with advanced spatial trajector technology capable of transporting them significant distances. Despite Captain Janeway's efforts to negotiate, the Sikarians refuse to share their technology, resulting in disastrous consequences. Interestingly, the Sikarians were originally envisioned as a different Star Trek alien race.

Star Trek: Voyager Almost Brings Back the TOS Supervisors

In the original pitch for "Prime Factors," Voyager was supposed to encounter the Supervisors, a group involved in the Star Trek: TOS episode "Assignment: Earth." This episode saw Captain Kirk and the crew venturing back in time to 1968 Earth and encountering Gary Seven, who tries to prevent a nuclear disaster. The episode served as a backdoor pilot for a potential series centered around Gary Seven's character.

The Supervisors, however, didn't reappear in the franchise until Star Trek: Picard season 2. They were reintroduced through the character Tallinn, who interacts with Jean-Luc Picard and his crew when they travel back in time to 21st-century Earth. The surprise cameo of Wesley Crusher in the season finale reveals that the Supervisors are dispatched by the Travelers, a mysterious group first introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The Decision Behind Delaying the Supervisors' Return

While the Supervisors didn't return in Voyager, their absence was a deliberate choice by the show's writing team. They wanted to establish the show's individuality and avoid direct ties to previous Star Trek: TOS episodes. Instead, they reshaped the storyline to introduce the Sikarians as a recurring antagonist race for Voyager. It would take many years before the Supervisors made their comeback on Star Trek: Picard, where their connection to the Travelers was revealed.
