New Christmas TV Movies Will Air On Hallmark, Lifetime Despite Strike

The upcoming holiday season is set to be filled with new TV movies, despite the ongoing strikes in the entertainment industry. According to Variety, networks such as Hallmark Channel, Lifetime, and Great American Family have managed to complete their slate of holiday movies before the strikes started.

The strike by the Writers Guild of America began on May 2, affecting both television and film productions, while SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since July 14. However, some of the holiday films planned for the 2023 season had already started production in January.

At Hallmark Channel, the preparations for Christmas movies go on throughout the year. Lisa Hamilton Daly, EVP of programming at Hallmark Media, expressed gratitude for being able to meet their goals and provide viewers with a full lineup of new holiday content.

A Sneak Peek of the Upcoming Movies

While not all networks have announced their full lineups yet, Hallmark Channel has revealed a few of their movies for the 2023 season. These include "A Merry Scottish Christmas" featuring Lacey Chabert and Scott Wolf, "A Biltmore Christmas" starring Bethany Joy Lenz and Kristoffer Polaha, and "Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up," the sequel to a 2022 film, with Lacey Chabert and Wes Brown. The announcement of lineups typically takes place between mid-September and mid-October.

In addition, UpTV has announced that they will be premiering eight new movies and one music special starting on November 3.

Previous Year's Success

In 2022, the holiday movie extravaganza saw nearly 150 new original TV movies airing across various networks such as Hallmark, Lifetime, Great American Family, UpTV, BET+, Discovery+, CBS, Netflix, OWN, Hulu, and ION. Among them, Hallmark Channel led the pack with 40 films, while Lifetime aired 26 new movies. Great American Family and UpTV also contributed with 18 and 17 new movies respectively. Hallmark Channel even dedicated 24 hours a day, seven days a week to airing festive movies during the holiday season.
