Renowned producer and actor Tyler Perry has sparked controversy with his recent comments during an interview. Perry, 54, expressed his perspective on splitting bills on the show "Keep It Positive, Sweetie."

He stated, "In our current society, particularly among Black women who, for the most part, earn more money than Black men... If you find love and the man is good, honors you, the house, and himself, it's okay if he cannot match your financial success."

Perry further explained that as long as a man is secure enough to acknowledge his partner's financial achievements and she is comfortable taking care of certain expenses, such as the mortgage, it should be seen as acceptable in a relationship.

Some individuals on social media disagreed, arguing that men who can only contribute sporadically to expenses may not be ready for serious relationships or starting families. They suggested that Perry should instead encourage men to improve their financial standing.

Despite differences in income, Perry highlighted the significance of love, support, and a strong relationship bond. He stated, "I know people whose partners earn less, but the love, the 'I got you, babe,' the support, it's a beautiful thing."

One commenter pointed out the challenge men often face when their female partners out-earn them, emphasizing that men may struggle with this dynamic.

Perry's advice comes from his own experiences as a potentially single man since his previous relationship with model and filmmaker Gelila Bekele ended in 2020. The couple, who began dating in 2007, share a son named Aman, born in 2014.
