Fox Krapopolis Animation Strike Fall Schedule – Deadline
The highly anticipated animated series, Krapopolis, created by Dan Harmon, is scheduled to premiere on Fox later this month. This marks a significant moment for the network as it becomes one of the few new scripted originals to launch on broadcast television this year.

However, behind the excitement lies a major issue that the broadcast networks are facing due to the ongoing writers and actors strikes. If these strikes continue, there will be a shortage of new scripted content on Fox, as well as ABC, CBS, and NBC, for the current season.
Fox's Investment in Krapopolis
Fox's President of Entertainment, Michael Thorn, shared his enthusiasm for Krapopolis and its creator, Dan Harmon. He stated, "Krapopolis not only represents a fantastic show at a creative level, but it also holds great symbolic importance for us as a corporate strategy. It is the first show owned by Bento Box, which we acquired as part of our decision to stay in the animation business."

Thorn sees Krapopolis as a "calling card" for Fox's growth strategy and aims to sign more direct deals with creators like Harmon. He expressed his excitement, saying, "This show is a coming together and realization of two strategies, and we're thrilled."
Premiere and Fall Schedule
Set in mythical ancient Greece, Krapopolis features a talented voice cast including Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy, and Duncan Trussell. The series will debut on September 24, following an NFL doubleheader, before settling into its regular timeslot on October 1 as part of Fox's Animation Domination block, alongside popular shows like The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, and Family Guy.

Additionally, Fox plans to introduce another comedy called Grimsburg, narrated by Jon Hamm, in the midseason. The network intends to give each series a unique launch strategy to ensure they receive the spotlight they deserve.
Challenges and Future Plans
While Thorn acknowledges the impact of the strikes on the fall schedule, he remains optimistic about the return of other shows affected by the delays, including Animal Control, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, and Accused. He emphasized that they will receive full support and emphasized Fox's commitment to maintaining momentum through continuity marketing campaigns.

The resolution of the strikes by October 1 is crucial for scripted shows like 9-1-1: Lone Star and The Cleaning Lady to have a chance of returning during the 2023-24 broadcast season. Thorn explained, "On a returning show, you can really be up and running and in two months. You're going to get to a point in the fall... where it's going to be very hard to launch within the traditional TV viewing season."
Exploring Alternatives
While traditional development is currently on hold due to the strikes, Thorn and his team are exploring other options. Fox has been looking into international co-production strategies, including securing the rights to a "best-selling British thriller" and exploring collaborations with UK, European, Canadian, and Australian companies. The network aims to embrace unique content models and remains open to sharing ownership.
