Universal Didn’t Trick Ana de Armas Fans, Judge Finds
The lawsuit accusing Universal of deceiving viewers by featuring Ana de Armas in trailers for the movie Yesterday has been dismissed by U.S. District Judge Stephen Wilson. The proposed class action was dismissed because the plaintiffs did not rely on alleged misrepresentations from the studio when choosing to watch the film.

Judge Rules in Favor of Universal
Peter Michael Rosza and Conor Woulfe claimed that they watched the trailer for Yesterday and believed that de Armas had a significant role in the romantic comedy. However, upon renting the movie, they discovered that she was not actually part of the film. The court found that Woulfe, who rented the movie again under the belief that de Armas might appear in a director's cut, "lacks standing" to bring a lawsuit because his injury was self-inflicted. Additionally, there was no reason to believe that the version of Yesterday they accessed on Google Play would be different from the one they watched previously.

De Armas' Scenes Cut from the Film
Ana de Armas was originally cast as a love interest for Himesh Patel in Yesterday, but her scenes were ultimately cut from the final version. The trailer prominently featured her and Patel on James Corden's talk show set. The complaint alleged that Universal used de Armas' fame and presence in the trailers to promote the film, even though she didn't appear in it.

Dismissing the Lawsuit
The lawsuit claimed false advertisement, unjust enrichment, and violation of unfair competition. However, Judge Wilson concluded that the plaintiffs did not have grounds for pursuing the case. Universal's inclusion of de Armas in the trailers did not constitute fraudulent misrepresentation, as the decision to watch the movie was not solely based on her presence.
