Jackass Forever, it's not impossible. Paramount might see value in reviving the franchise.
Jackass 5 Could Struggle To Match Jackass Forever
Jackass has become increasingly welcomed by critics with each consecutive release, but
Jackass 5 could be a step too far. The
Jackass franchise, which follows a group of friends intentionally putting themselves in danger, has
become a huge phenomenon that spans a whole MTV series, four movies, several bonus outtake movies, and the
spinoff Bad Grandpa. The Jackass movies have grossed over £570 million in total (via The Numbers). When a franchise makes that much money with such low budgets, it only
makes sense to continue the series.
Outside the ".5" films, which are essentially outtakes from each movie grouped together to make feature-length
releases, the Jackass franchise has gradually won over audiences with each release. 2002's
Jackass: The Movie has a "rotten" 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, Jackass Number 2 has 66%, Jackass 3D has 67%, and
Jackass Forever has a huge 85%, which nobody saw coming. That could have to do with the fact that
the teenagers who grew up with the series are now professional critics, but there's no doubt that Jackass
Forever surprised the original naysayers too. However, Jackass 5 could undo
all of that.
Jackass Forever Was A Perfect Ending For The Jackass Crew
What made Jackass Forever more heartwarming than audiences expected was the sweet montage at the very
end. After "The Vomitron," in which several members are put on a roundabout after drinking pig-semen-laced milk
and then shot at with paintballs, the final montage is shockingly tear-jerking. Roger Alan Wade's "If You Wanna
Be Dumb, You Gotta Be Tough" plays over the movie's outtakes, but the outtakes slowly transition into old clips
of the gang's earliest stunts together. At some point in the montage, the gang even recreates some of the old
stunts, such as Dave England defecating in a store toilet that isn't connected to plumbing.
Will Jackass 5 Actually Happen? What Its Chances Look Like
Steve-O candidly addressed Jackass 5's chances, noting that he "wouldn’t be
surprised if some kind of project reunited" the crew again. However, he clarified that he isn't
expecting another movie. That might be for the best, as the Jackass crew is getting older. There were
12 years between Jackass 3D and Jackass Forever, and if there's another decade-long gap until
Jackass 5, Knoxville will be in his 60s. While Knoxville would undoubtedly be willing
to return, Paramount would be facing some major insurance issues following his serious head injury in Jackass
Forever.
However, with a new, younger Jackass cast being introduced in Jackass Forever, it's absolutely
possible that Jackass 5 could happen, regardless of whether it should. Given how
profitable the latest installment was, Paramount might see value in reviving the franchise with a new cast. It's
hard to see the newcomers living up to the antics of the original group, but stranger things have happened.
