The creative director of Spider-Man 2 has responded to the ongoing debate surrounding the cost of video games versus their length. As fans eagerly awaited the release of Insomniac Games' latest installment, discussions ignited when a player leaked that achieving 100% completion would take around 25 to 30 hours. While some fans considered this acceptable, others expressed disappointment with the game's duration given its full price. IGN conducted a survey among its team members to determine completion times, with the fastest player finishing the story in 18 hours and the "slowest" taking 25 hours.

Delivering a Quality Experience

Bryan Intihar, of Insomniac Games, explained the studio's approach to game length, stating, "For us, it really comes down to the experience we want to deliver with the quality we want to hit. Obviously, there's a certain level of, 'hey, someone's going to spend this much money on a game', so we want to give them the experience that's worth it."

Spider-Man 2 is a full-priced PlayStation 5 game, retailing at £69.99. Although some comparable games offer longer playtimes, it's important to Insomniac that players feel the experience is worth their investment. "Our job is to make sure that you feel no matter how long it is, it's worth that money, it's worth that investment," explained Intihar.

Future Content and Updates

Insomniac has plans to expand the value of Spider-Man 2 post-launch. By the end of 2023, a New Game Plus mode will be added, alongside other new features. While no full-on DLC has been confirmed yet, the studio is actively working to enhance the game's offering.

IGN's review of the game gave it a score of 8/10, noting that while the open world fell slightly short, Spider-Man 2 delivered an engaging and enjoyable superhero experience.
