Actor Simon Farnaby, known for his role in "Ghosts," recently shared an amusing encounter with Queen Elizabeth II while filming the Paddington platinum jubilee concert special.

In 2022, Queen Elizabeth II, who sadly passed away three months later, appeared in a pre-recorded sketch that kicked off the Platinum Party at the Palace concert. The sketch featured the Queen showcasing her acting skills alongside the CGI character Paddington Bear, voiced by Ben Whishaw, reminiscent of her appearance with James Bond during the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony.

Awkward misunderstanding with the Queen

Farnaby, who played the character Barry the Security Guard in the clip, revealed on Richard Herring's podcast, "RHLSTP," that he had an awkward moment with the Queen after filming ended. Mistakenly, Farnaby complimented her acting skills, to which the Queen unexpectedly replied, "Well, I do it all the time." Farnaby misunderstood her reply and thought she was referring to playing the role of the Queen. Unfortunately, she clarified that she is indeed the Queen, and Paddington is not real.

Embarrassment for Farnaby

Farnaby admitted that he lost all his confidence when the Queen corrected his misunderstanding. He had thought she meant it as a role, but she made it clear that being the Queen was not an act. The Queen further explained that she referred to her annual Christmas speech as an example of playing a specific role.

Adjusting the Queen's tone

Farnaby also shared an interesting behind-the-scenes tidbit. He revealed that they had to reshoot a scene in which the Queen tells Paddington she keeps a stash of marmalade sandwiches in her handbag. Initially, her delivery was too severe, and the director requested her to soften her tone. Farnaby expressed his appreciation for the Queen's willingness to adjust her performance to meet the desired portrayal.

The sketch concluded with Paddington wishing the Queen a "happy jubilee" and expressing gratitude "for everything."
