Ronnie Wood reveals final conversation with Charlie Watts

The Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has shared details about his last conversation with the late drummer Charlie Watts. Wood confirmed that before Watts' passing in 2021 from cancer at the age of 80, he had given his approval for Steve Jordan to take over on drums and expressed his desire that the band continue without him.

Wood revealed that he was the last band member to see Watts in the hospital before his death. He recalled their conversation, saying, "He said, 'I want to get out of this bloody place, but until I do, will you please make sure that Steve Jordan carries the flag for me?' And I said, 'Don't worry about that. We've got you covered.'"

Despite Watts' absence, The Rolling Stones are set to release their new album, Hackney Diamonds, on October 20th. While Watts contributed to two tracks on the LP, Jordan appears on the majority of songs.

Keith Richards Pays Tribute

During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Keith Richards expressed how he remembers Watts every day. He shared that he has a portrait of Watts on his staircase and salutes it as he passes by. Richards described Watts as a "solid guy" and highlighted his talent for bringing unique ideas to the band.
