Farnaby, who co-wrote the popular film Paddington 2, appeared in the sketch as a Buckingham Palace footman and revealed during an episode of the Richard Herring podcast that the Queen initially delivered her line about keeping her marmalade sandwich in her handbag too harshly and struggled to remember her lines.

According to Farnaby, the director would kindly ask, 'Ma'am, could you just be a bit gentler.' Upon which the Queen graciously responded, 'I'm so sorry, yes of course.' The director would further instruct her, 'Like you're talking to your grandchildren,' to which the Queen replied, 'Oh, of course. I'm so sorry.'

A Surprising Collaboration

The Queen and Paddington's unexpected on-screen collaboration took the nation by surprise, as it was filmed discreetly. Several members of the Royal Family, including the then Prince of Wales, now King Charles, and her grandson Prince William, were spotted in the crowd, appearing equally astonished by the Queen's appearance alongside the beloved bear.
