'I'm Neither a Rapist, Nor a Predator'
French actor Gerard Depardieu, who is facing rape and sexual assault charges stemming from a 2018 case, has released a letter proclaiming his innocence and stating, "I'm neither a rapist, nor a predator."

Depardieu Denies Allegations in Open Letter
In a brief letter published in Le Figaro newspaper on Oct. 1, Depardieu indirectly addressed the rape and sexual assault accusations made in a 2018 lawsuit by Charlotte Arnould, whose parents were friends of his.

Without explicitly mentioning Arnould, Depardieu referenced the incident, stating that a woman came to his home and willingly entered his bedroom on two separate occasions. He asserts that the encounters involved no coercion, violence, or protests.

Depardieu's Defense and Legal Situation
Depardieu's legal representation at Cabinet Temime issued a statement, denying all accusations that could be subject to criminal law, and questioning the credibility of the anonymous testimonies provided in a recent investigative report published by Mediapart.

The actor has been under indictment since December 2020, but no custodial measures have been taken against him. Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Depardieu has continued working on high-profile film projects and his music show, "Depardieu Chante Barbara."
Additional Accusations and Impact on Depardieu's Career
In addition to the 2018 case, Depardieu has been accused of sexual misconduct by 13 women, including fellow actors and production staff. These allegations were detailed in the Mediapart report, which prompted a backlash and led to the cancellation of several of his tour dates.
Depardieu's Strong Assertion of Innocence
In his open letter, Depardieu vehemently denied all allegations and expressed his disbelief at the accusations made against him. He emphasized that he has never harmed or abused a woman, comparing such actions to betraying his own mother.
Depardieu's Recent Art Auction
In separate news, Depardieu made headlines recently for selling his art collection at an auction in Paris, with reports stating that it fetched €4 million ($4.2 million).
