'Across The Spider-Verse' Sets Digital Release Date At Netflix

After a successful theatrical run, Sony's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is headed to Netflix. The film, which became the highest-grossing film in the history of Sony Pictures Animation, will premiere on the streaming platform on October 31. While the release date for other territories has not been announced yet, the movie has already amassed over $690 million worldwide.

The Sequel to an Oscar-winning Animated Feature

Across the Spider-Verse serves as the first of two sequels to Sony's 2018 Best Animated Feature Oscar winner, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The film stars Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld, and it follows the story of Miles Morales as he reunites with Gwen Stacy. Together, they encounter a team of Spider-People who are guardians of the multiverse. However, when they disagree on how to handle a new threat, Miles must redefine his understanding of heroism in order to save the people he cares about.

The movie was scripted by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham. Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson directed the film. It features a star-studded voice cast that includes Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.

Originally, the third animated Spidey film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, was set to be released on March 29, 2024. However, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which resulted in voice over work being impossible to complete, the release date had to be rescheduled. The new date has not yet been determined.

These include Best Christmas Ever, starring Heather Graham, Leo, an animated Adam Sandler movie, Family Switch, directed by McG and starring Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms, and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, a sequel by Aardman.
