In an interview with Ibou of WrestlePurists, MJF explained that fans are quick to draw parallels between the two storylines because both have elicited strong emotions from audiences. He emphasized that the two narratives are distinct and not the same.

It doesn't mean that it doesn't mean that they're doing the same thing."
