Major character bids farewell on Neighbours in dramatic exit scenes

Neighbours spoilers follow for Monday’s (October 2) episode that is now available to stream on Amazon Freevee.

Emotions ran high for Mike Young (Guy Pearce) during the latest episode of the popular soap as he proposed to his longtime love, Jane Harris (Annie Jones), in a scene that has been three decades in the making.

The iconic couple, who reunited during last year's finale, traveled to the UK for a special trip in the opening episodes of Neighbours' revival.

However, it was soon revealed that Mike had an ulterior motive for the trip as he was secretly planning to propose to Jane.

Feeling heartbroken, Mike threw his engagement ring into the lake, believing that Jane was going to break up with him.

After finding Jane at a nearby bridge, Mike reassured her that it's okay if she wants to end their relationship.

However, Jane revealed that she was actually upset about something else - Mike losing his job at Erinsborough High.

This news came as a shock to Mike, but he quickly shifted his focus to retrieving his engagement ring.

Mike raced to the lake and reunited with Jane, who was puzzled by why he was wet. Mike professed his love for Jane before getting down on one knee and asking her to marry him.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Jane said yes, and both of them were overcome with tears of joy.

This marks Guy Pearce's departure from Neighbours for now, but with Mike and Jane still together, there's a possibility for his return in the future.
