This revealed a first glimpse at many beloved characters transitioning from the animated world to live-action, and it announced the much-anticipated premiere date of Feb. 22.
New footage introduces live-action versions of Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), Sokka (Ian Ousley), Prince Zuko (Dallas James Liu), Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim), Uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), Princess Azula (Elizabeth Yu), and Commander Zhao (Ken Leung). Moreover, fans got their first look at Aang’s giant flying bison Appa, his animal sidekick Momo, Suki (Maria Zhang), and the Kyoshi Warriors.

Under the guidance of showrunner Albert Kim, the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to retell the epic story of the animated series, first aired on Nickelodeon in 2005. The series has expanded into The Legend of Korra, comics, games, and now additional new animated ventures in progress, following an infamously critiqued movie by M. Night Shyamalan.
In a fantasy realm reminiscent of medieval times, individuals known as benders possess the ability to manipulate earth, air, fire, or water. The latest Avatar, a young airbender named Aang, emerges during a tumultuous period dominated by Fire Lord Ozai and his quest for control.
