The 58-year-old Evangelista was married to Marie, who served as the head of the European division of Elite Models, from 1987 to 1993. She revealed, "Did I have #MeToo moments? Absolutely. I was in a #MeToo marriage. Absolutely." Evangelista went on to express her remorse for remaining silent and shared that she only discovered the extent of her ex-husband's actions through a story published by The Guardian.

Evangelista believes that speaking up at the time might have encouraged other victims to come forward, potentially preventing the statute of limitations from expiring. Marie faced allegations of rape and sexual misconduct from seven women in 2020, but no charges were filed as the investigation was recently closed.
