In a recent post on Weibo, Jia unveiled some important specifications of the duo, including a powerful Dimensity 9300 chipset and the vivo V3 ISP, optimized for the Zeiss-branded T*-coated lens cameras.

Jia also mentioned that the impressive moon shots captured by the phones are not real photographs. Instead, they are the result of what he calls "calculation photography." The device utilizes available data on geographical location and moon phase to accurately calculate the state and position of the moon, then enhances the imagery using higher quality techniques.

The Weibo post showcased several stunning images taken with the vivo X100 series, including photos of the sun using the periscope lens and shorter telephoto camera. Notable samples included a picture of a person and another of a ladybug on a plant.

Jia confidently asserted that the vivo X100 phones will capture realistic and breathtaking photos of the sun during sunset. While it's true that a smartphone cannot capture these shots perfectly, a powerful SoC (System on Chip) combined with a dedicated image signal processor can utilize known data about the sun's position to bring out its beauty in the photo.

One challenge, however, is dealing with overall brightness. Direct sunlight during the day reaches over 125,000 lumens, while during sunrise and the sunset, it significantly decreases to around 32,000 lumens. This drastic reduction in brightness can result in other objects appearing underexposed. To address this, the vivo ISP focuses on isolating the sun from its calculations, processing the rest of the picture, and then adding an enhanced version of the sun itself.

This impressive functionality is not entirely new for vivo smartphones. The predecessor X90 Pro already showcased stunning photos taken during sunrise and sunset. With the upcoming vivo X100 Pro equipped with the latest Mediatek flagship chipset, we can expect an even more enhanced photography experience.
