In the year 1985, Marty McFly finds himself dealing with the typical challenges of being a teenager. While he enjoys skateboarding and the attention from pretty girls, he struggles with disinterested teachers, academic difficulties, and a father who allows others to mistreat him. Marty's weekend plans with his girlfriend are ruined when his father's boss damages the family car.

However, Marty's life takes an unexpected turn when his eccentric scientist friend, Doc Brown, invites him to witness an experiment at the local mall parking lot in the early hours of the morning. Unbeknownst to Marty, Doc has created a time machine out of a DeLorean car using stolen plutonium.

Chaos ensues when Libyan terrorists, from whom Doc stole the plutonium, show up seeking revenge. Doc is shot during the incident, causing Marty to accidentally activate the time machine and travel back to the year 1955. Stranded in the past without access to plutonium to return home, Marty encounters his teenage parents, Lorraine and George.
