Comedian Eddie Kadi, who hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo, has expressed his excitement about joining the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing. The 40-year-old performer, who came to the UK without being able to speak English, revealed that being a part of the show alongside TV stars he grew up watching is a "special moment" in his journey. Kadi, who will be paired with professional dancer Karen Hauer, considers himself a winner already, having overcome numerous obstacles in life.

Kadi candidly shared that the competition for him has never been about winning but about surpassing barriers that come his way. He stated, "So the only competition for me has just been being able to get through certain barriers. I'm here with my trophy so there's no competition, it's all fun, it's all amazing, it's just been decorated with the world of dance, which I'm incredibly honored by because you know what? Dance lessons are very expensive and I'm getting them for free… it's like January Boxing Day sales."

As the first British black comedian to headline the O2 Arena in London, Eddie Kadi has made significant strides in the entertainment industry. He has also been a team captain on ITV's panel show Sorry I Didn't Know and hosted the Mobo awards in 2021. Kadi is currently working on his own documentary with Channel 4.

A Dynamic Partnership
In this year's Strictly line-up, Kadi will be partnered with Venezuelan-American dancer Karen Hauer. They both share an incredible camaraderie during rehearsals, often laughing together. Kadi expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Karen is just full of life but she also has that bit where there's equilibrium, there's a nice balance and she's Latino, she knows how to get me in shape." Hauer also complimented Kadi's sociable nature and how everyone gravitates towards him.
Anticipating the Dance Styles
Kadi has expressed his excitement about salsa dancing and the Congolese rumba, describing the latter as "very sensual and very slow." Hauer believes Kadi's Latin American dancing will be fantastic and is particularly looking forward to exploring ballroom dancing with him. She sees their partnership as an opportunity to hone Kadi's energy and create a seamless blend of their styles.
Strictly Come Dancing will be returning on Saturday, September 23, airing on BBC and BBC iPlayer.
