Fox Execs on Fall Schedule, Expectations for Dan Harmon's 'Krapopolis'

With its Sunday night "Animation Domination" lineup, Fox is set to launch one of the only full nights of scripted programming in primetime this fall. The lineup includes the much-anticipated debut of Dan Harmon's new animated series, "Krapopolis," which is set in ancient Greece. Originally commissioned in June 2020, the series was formally ordered in February 2021 and is now scheduled to premiere on September 24, after being delayed multiple times. It has already been renewed for a second and third season.

Fox's Expectations for "Krapopolis"

Fox Entertainment scripted programming president, Michael Thorn, expressed cautious optimism about the show's success. He acknowledged that in today's changed world, overnight success is rare and emphasized the importance of positive audience reactions, momentum in viewership, and word-of-mouth promotion for the series. Thorn admitted that while they hope for a remarkable opening, they are also realistic and have faith in the show's long-term potential, as evidenced by the early renewal for a third season.

Unscripted Programming in Fox's Fall Schedule

Due to the impact of the ongoing strike, unscripted programming dominates Fox's fall schedule, a trend seen across networks in response to the lack of scripted production. Allison Wallach, Fox Entertainment's president of unscripted, compared this launch to the challenges faced during the early months of the COVID-19 shutdowns. Despite relying heavily on unscripted content, Wallach and her team did not feel any added pressure. Notable shows in the fall lineup include Gordon Ramsay's "Hell's Kitchen" and the return of "Kitchen Nightmares," along with the second season of "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test" featuring a star-studded cast.
