New Broadcast Scripted Series Eye Move To 2024-25 Season Due To Strike
During the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the anticipated restart of Hollywood production is facing further delays. As a result, most new scripted broadcast series that were picked up for the 2023-24 season are now looking at a debut in the next season.

According to sources, NBC and Fox are expected to push their upcoming scripted series originally planned for this midseason to the 2024-25 season. This includes NBC's workplace comedy St. Denis Medical and medical drama Dr. Wolf, as well as Fox's medical drama Doc and lifeguard drama Rescue: Hi-Surf.
In addition, CBS' new series Matlock, starring Kathy Bates, and Poppa's House, starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., are also set to premiere in the next season.

The decision to delay these launches is due to the tight production schedules caused by the SAG-AFTRA strike and upcoming holiday breaks. The networks are opting to give these new series more time to deliver impactful episodes and develop a following.
Fox, in particular, faces a challenge as their scripted series Doc and Rescue: Hi-Surf did not produce pilots. This means that casting for these shows will have to start from scratch once the strike is over. It is now highly likely that they will premiere in the fall of 2024.

CBS also had to adjust their schedule with the moves. Matlock will be relocating its production to Los Angeles, which requires additional time for set building and ramping up production. Tracker aims to maintain its post-Super Bowl launch slot, making it a priority for production to start as quickly as possible post-strike.
ABC and Fox are not expected to launch any new live-action scripted series this season. Both networks are focusing on reality programming and other content to salvage the broadcast season.

While NBC won't air any of its new scripted series from the 2023 pilot season, they do have two new dramas Found and The Irrational that were held from last season, both of which have performed well.
The delays in production and premieres of these new series are a result of the ongoing strike, and networks are making strategic decisions to ensure the success and impact of these shows.
