Annabel Croft Reveals How 'Bittersweet' Strictly Stint Has Helped Her Deal With Her Husband's Death

Former tennis player Annabel Croft has opened up about her emotional journey on Strictly Come Dancing following the death of her husband, Mel Coleman. Croft described her experience on the show as "distracting her from all the pain" of her husband's passing, and expressed how the show has been both healing and emotional for her. She shared that participating in Strictly was bittersweet, as her late husband used to love watching the show.

Talking on Loose Women alongside her dance partner Johannes Radebe, Croft said, "Obviously the grief comes in waves and there are many days where you’re just sobbing at home, but with Strictly and meeting Johannes and going on this journey together, it literally has distracted me from all of that pain. And there are days – I mean, poor Johannes has had to cope with quite a few in the rehearsal rooms and everything. But you [Johannes] give me so much purpose to get up in the morning and come and dance."

Croft recalled how her late husband used to join the family in the kitchen, eagerly calling everyone in to watch Johannes perform on Strictly. It was a bittersweet experience for her, as she wished her husband could have met Johannes and seen her journey on the show. Last Saturday, Croft and Radebe performed an emotional routine dedicated to Mel, which moved head judge Shirley Ballas to tears.

Annabel Croft announced her husband's passing earlier this year, stating, "My beloved husband Mel passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning after a short battle with cancer. My family and I are completely heartbroken and ask for privacy at this very sad time." The couple, who married in 1993, have three grown-up children together – Charlie, Amber, and Lilly.
