Nocturne Season 2 After Alucard’s Return

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Castlevania: Nocturne season 1 and the games Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Symphony of Night.

Summary

  • Alucard's return in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 hints at further connections between the two Netflix series and the video game franchise.
  • Richter's character development in season 2 could include learning about his ancestors, gaining powerful new abilities, and obtaining iconic weapons.
  • The introduction of beloved game characters, like Shaft and Iris, and flashbacks filling in Alucard's timeline, will add depth and expand the storyline in season 2.

With the return of Alucard, there are many exciting things that can happen in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2. Netflix's animated fantasy series follows Richter Belmont, Maria, and Annette as they take on the secret vampire society attempting to control the aristocracy during the French Revolution. Castlevania: Nocturne has gained mostly positive reviews and a decent-sized following since its release.

Since the announcement that Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 is happening, speculation has surfaced about what storylines could take center stage going forward. Alucard's return at the ending of Castlevania: Nocturne season 1 adds extra excitement to the conversation. His presence hints at further connections between Castlevania: Nocturne, Castlevania, and the video game franchise both series are based on. With all the great lore, characters, and magical abilities, Castlevania: Nocturne can take its story in many exciting directions in season 2.

10. Alucard Telling Richter About Trevor & Sypha

Trevor and Sypha cuddle up in a blanket together

Given that Alucard met Trevor and Sypha during the original Castlevania series, he can provide Richter with firsthand knowledge of his ancestors — what they were like, how they fought in battle, and the similarities he has to them. Castlevania: Nocturne already displays Richter's connection to Sypha with his ability to perform really strong magic. However, the younger Belmont also has the hot head and loud mouth of Trevor. By including a scene in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 during which Alucard and Richter discuss the original couple, Richter can feel more connected to the Belmont family line instead of just the legacy.

9. Richter Performing Hydro Storm

Since Richter is the most powerful Belmont, he should be capable of performing stronger spells than those seen in Castlevania: Nocturne season 1. One super attack from the Castlevania games that would work well in season 2 is the special attack Hydro Storm. During this spell, holy water rains down on the surrounding area, creating blue flames when it hits the ground. Richter is also lifted into the air and becomes invincible during the storm. While the first season sees Richter controlling his blue flames, there's no rain, levitation, or invincibility. He doesn't get a true Hydro Storm moment, but he could in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2.

8. The Return Of Dracula

Dracula flashes his fangs in Castlevania season 2

In the Castlevania video games, Dracula is the primary antagonist who returns many times over. While he had a happy Don't miss these points at the end of the original animated series, he should still appear in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2. This is feasible since he's still alive at the end of Castlevania season 4. Possible reasons for his return include helping his son, Alucard, fight off the antagonists of the series. He also could turn evil and vengeful again if something bad happens to his wife. Ultimately, Castlevania: Nocturne will only feel like true Castlevania content if Dracula plays some kind of role in its plot.

7. Richter Getting The Morning Star Whip

Throughout Castlevania: Nocturne season 1, Richter uses the Vampire Killer whip that's passed down through his family line. While this serves him well, especially when combined with his blue flames, it isn't the only Belmont weapon that should appear in the Netflix series. Another weapon that could show up is the metal Morning Star whip from the original Castlevania. While Trevor Belmont starts out with the same whip as Richter, he drops it for Morning Star in season 2. If Richter takes on the metal whip in season 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne, it will connect him to his ancestor and serve as a parallel to the previous animated show.

6. Castlevania: Nocturne Introducing Shaft and Iris

Two beloved characters from the video games Castlevania: Nocturne is based on don't appear in the first season. Shaft, the dark priest loyal to Dracula, could serve as a vehicle to bring the classic vampire into this series. However, even without Dracula, he could still have an integral role in the plot due to Alucard's presence in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2. Though she's technically a side character, Iris would also fit well in the animated series. Iris is a villager with medical knowledge and a magical charm. With the likely increase in battles, Iris could join Richter's group and help mend injuries.

5. Flashbacks Filling In the Alucard’s Timeline

While it's exciting that Alucard appears at the end of Castlevania: Nocturne, it creates a whole host of questions that need answers. At the end of Castlevania season 4, Alucard helps Trevor and Sypha take down his father, who wants to end the human race. However, that occurs 300 years before the events of Castlevania: Nocturne. By the time he appears in the new show, Richter Belmont believes Alucard only exists as a myth, not a real person. Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 will need to include scenes that fill in Alucard's timeline, explaining what he did during the period between shows.

4. Richter Belmont Becoming Morally Corrupt

Richter Belmont looks over his shoulder

While Richter Belmont mostly takes on a hero role in the Castlevania games, Symphony of Night — a sequel to Rondo of Blood — takes place five years later with him acting as an antagonist due to brainwashing. Throughout the first season of Castlevania: Nocturne, Richter is surly and smart-mouthed but clearly a hero. His trauma occasionally impacts his actions; however, this doesn't change his core goodness. Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 could show Richter heading in the direction of his Symphony of Night story arc. He could start making questionable decisions and acting in morally corrupt ways.

Tera's change into a vampire is one of the most tragic developments of Castlevania: Nocturne season 1's ending. However, it is also the most fitting choice when it comes to a mother protecting her daughter. This plot point raises questions about how Tera will act as a vampire. It's likely she will act out of character throughout Castlevania: Nocturne season 2. However, one of the best ways to navigate this change would be to make Tera a double agent, trying to take down the vampire secret society from within. This would allow her to embrace her vampire side in a way that doesn't betray her basic characterization.
