In a recent development, Mavenir CEO Pardeep Kohli has defended their mobile core business against industry speculations of difficulties. Kohli disputed a report by Dell'Oro Group, which ranked Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, ZTE, and Cisco as the top-five mobile core vendors in Q2 2023, with Mavenir dropping to the fifth spot. However, Kohli clarified that Mavenir's omission from the top-five was due to the research company's decision to combine the wireless and wireline core sub-markets, an area where Mavenir does not compete.

Addressing the issue, Kohli stated, "Even without the report, I believe everyone in the industry knows that there are only five vendors - Huawei, ZTE, Ericsson, Nokia, and Mavenir - who can provide all wireless core network (Packet core + IMS) components at scale."

Highlighting Mavenir's approach, Kohli mentioned that the company focuses on software rather than proprietary hardware for mobile core. He emphasized their encouragement for customers to purchase infrastructure and software separately, allowing Mavenir to focus on software and service revenue. Kohli also highlighted Mavenir's success in adding over 50 new customers in the past three years, thanks to their move to a disaggregated model.

In a separate report, Dell'Oro Group stated a decline in revenue for open RAN and virtualised RAN in Q2 2023, marking the first quarter of year-over-year contractions since they began tracking these trends in 2019.
