Positive Growth Expected for Indonesian Smartphone Shipments

According to IDC, smartphone shipments in Indonesia are predicted to improve in the second half of the year after experiencing a decline for the eighth consecutive quarter in Q2. IDC Indonesia analyst, Vanessa Aurelia, stated that the supply of smartphones across different price ranges is expected to stabilize as vendors prepare for the year-end selling period. However, full-year shipments are expected to be the lowest since 2018.

Highlights of the Smartphone Market

  1. Shipments declined 6.3% YoY to 8.9 million units in Indonesia.
  2. 5G smartphone models experienced a 4.3% drop since their launch in 2020.
  3. The entry-level segment and smartphone models priced over £600 contributed positively to slowing down the decline in shipments. The entry-level segment experienced growth, while models priced over £600 rose by 71%.
  4. Transsion was the only top-five vendor to see growth in shipments, with a 12.3% increase to 1.2 million units and a 2.2 percentage point rise in market share to 13.4%.
  5. Samsung maintained its top position but witnessed a 3.4% decrease in shipments to 1.9 million units, with a market share of 20.8%.
  6. Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi all experienced declines in shipments, falling from 2 million to 1.6 million, 1.7 million to 1.5 million, and 1.5 million to 1.3 million respectively.
