According to a recent survey by PwC, nearly 1 in 3 workers in Ireland underestimate the impact of AI on their jobs in the coming years. The survey also reveals that many Irish workers are feeling undervalued and underpaid.

Irish workers are experiencing high levels of stress and dissatisfaction, with little confidence in their employers' ability to sustain their businesses. PwC's 2023 Hopes and Fears Workforce Survey, which included responses from 1,000 Irish workers as part of a global survey, shed light on these concerns. One-fifth of the Irish workers surveyed expressed a desire to find new employment, while the same percentage believed that their current employers would go out of business within the next decade if operations continued unchanged. This figure is lower than the global average of 31%.

While Irish workers may have more confidence in their bosses compared to global averages, they still face significant challenges. The survey found that 23% of respondents in Ireland struggle to pay bills, which marks a significant increase from the previous year's 11%. Additionally, 23% of Irish workers reported feeling overwhelmed by their workload. Only 36% of respondents felt fairly compensated for their work, compared to the global average of 42%.

Additionally, the survey findings suggest that the stress and lack of compensation may hinder Irish workers from acquiring new skills necessary for their future career development.

Despite the significance of AI in the workforce, 29% of Irish workers do not believe it will impact their jobs in the next five years. However, 22% acknowledged that AI has the potential to enhance their productivity. There is still skepticism and concern surrounding this technology, as 10% of workers believe that AI will replace their roles entirely, while only 16% anticipate new job opportunities created by AI.
