Founded in 2021 by college friends David Oudsandji, Roman Alberti, and Afshin Doostdar, Voltfang is requalifying high-performance EV batteries after their first life and transforming them into power storage systems for commercial and industrial use. This innovative approach not only helps businesses achieve sustainable production and power supply but also increases cost efficiency and enables greater energy independence.

Maximizing Battery Potential

Rather than disposing of EV batteries after their initial use, Voltfang's advanced techniques refurbish them, accurately forecasting each battery module's remaining lifetime using deep learning algorithms. This process allows the batteries to be safely utilized for up to 10 years, thereby minimizing waste and maximizing their energy storage potential. Voltfang's technology also provides clients with an optimal overview of their energy flow, ensuring seamless integration and reducing installation complexity.

Scaling Up and Future Funding

With its innovative approach, Voltfang has experienced significant growth and success. The start-up raised €5.2 million in a seed round, and its proximity to RWTH Aachen University has provided access to a wealth of engineering and business talent, facilitating further expansion. In just one year, Voltfang's headcount has doubled from 30 to 60, and the company is now preparing for a funding round in September 2024 to support its continued growth. "Since the start of this year, we have deployed more than 800 kWh of energy storage systems," adds Oudsandji.

By repurposing used EV batteries, Voltfang not only contributes to a more sustainable future but also eliminates the need to import critical materials from outside the European Union, reducing delivery time and environmental impact. With their innovative approach and a bright future ahead, Voltfang is set to revolutionize the energy storage industry.
