Conservative MPs, including Tory deputy chairman Lee Anderson, are now backing a crowdfunding campaign to help Stewart raise £50,000 to cover the costs of the case. Danny Kruger, Tory MP for Devizes, also expressed his support for Stewart's legal challenge against the conviction, stating that Stewart is a "national hero and a decent man.

The crowdfunding campaign has already surpassed its original target within 24 hours, raising funds to fight the charges brought against Bob Stewart DSO MP and cover the associated legal costs. To support him, donations can be made here.

Background of the Incident and Verdict

The incident occurred after an activist, Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, lodged a complaint against Stewart. Alwadaei claimed to be living in exile after experiencing torture in Bahrain. During their heated exchange, Stewart allegedly told Alwadaei to "go back to Bahrain," "get stuffed," and accused him of "taking money off my country."

Stewart, a former British Army officer and the chairman of the all-parliamentary group on Bahrain, was found guilty of racial hostility towards Alwadaei. However, the prosecutor stated that Stewart's actions were not motivated by racial hostility. Despite calls from the Liberal Democrats for Stewart to lose the Tory whip in parliament, no action has been taken against him by his party.

The crowdfunding campaign has already raised nearly £4,000 out of its target.
