Meta Platforms Takes Steps to Address Threads Exodus

Reuters reported that CEO Mark Zuckerberg (pictured) has revealed that Meta Platforms is implementing strategies to retain users of its Threads app, following a significant decrease in user numbers after its recent launch.
The text-based social media service initially gained 10 million users within seven hours, reaching a total of 100 million. However, Reuters disclosed that more than half of the users have since abandoned the platform.
Zuckerberg explained to employees that the drop-off is expected and cited the forthcoming additions of a desktop version and search functionality as factors that will likely boost user retention.

A different approach suggested by Meta Platforms' chief product officer Chris Cox is to closely integrate the new service with the company's Instagram offering.
The CEO hinted at upcoming improvements for Threads during Meta Platforms' Q2 earnings call this week, stating that more users are returning daily than anticipated and that the company is working on improving user retention.
Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta Platforms will employ a strategy similar to its previous approach to its other social media apps in addressing the Threads exodus.
