Spotify hints at new HiFi tier with $20 monthly lossless audio

Spotify could be closer to launching its long-awaited HiFi tier. Code within the Spotify app reveals new details about the "Supremium" tier, which could include 24-bit lossless audio, AI-powered playlists, and more, as discovered by a Redditor.

This higher-priced HiFi tier was first announced by Spotify in February 2021 but has been delayed. According to a report from Bloomberg, Spotify rebranded the tier as "Supremium". The findings from the Redditor confirm this, with Spotify now referring to the audio as lossless without lag or delays.

The Redditor also found that the Supremium tier might offer 30 hours of audiobook listening per month and the ability to sort your library by mood, activity, and genre.

The app's code also hints at advanced mixing tools, allowing users to customize playlist order by beats per minute, enable smooth transitions between songs, and filter songs by mood or genre. There's even a "soundcheck" feature that helps users understand their listening habits and discover personalized sound mixes.

A spokesperson from Spotify responded to the findings, stating, "At Spotify, we are constantly improving our product offering, but we don't comment on speculation about possible new features and currently have nothing new to share."

While Spotify's current Premium plan is priced at £10.99, it remains to be seen if the addition of HiFi audio, AI playlists, and other features mentioned in the code are compelling enough to attract users to a £19.99 per month price tier. Competitors like Apple Music and Amazon Music already offer lossless audio without an extra cost in their existing plans.
