During an interview on 'Trevor Phillips on Sunday', Health Secretary Victoria Atkins was quizzed about the persisting complications plaguing the policy. The journalist, Trevor Phillips, noted with an edge of sarcasm, “The only person who seems to be on their way to Rwanda at the moment actually is the Home Secretary, James Cleverly. There's no asylum seekers going there any time soon.”

When pressed on whether the emergency legislation would be completed by Christmas, Atkins avoided a direct answer, stating instead: “I know that the home secretary is working incredibly hard and quickly on this.”

Sunak is faced with intense demands from parliamentary peers, intent on initiating flights to Rwanda, which is seen as crucial to fulfilling his promise to “stop the boats” transporting asylum seekers across the English Channel.
