Samsung Introduces 'Galaxy AI' with Real-Time Phone Call Translation Feature

Samsung has announced a new era of Galaxy AI for its smartphones, which will include a feature to translate phone calls in real time using artificial intelligence. The company explained that Galaxy AI combines both on-device AI developed by Samsung and cloud-based AI through collaborations with industry leaders. Samsung wrote in a blog post, "It will transform your everyday mobile experience with the peace of mind you count on from Galaxy security and privacy."

As part of the Galaxy AI experience, Samsung is introducing a live translate feature called "AI Live Translate Call." This feature will be integrated into Samsung's native phone app and will provide audio and text translations in real time as the user speaks. The translations will be processed on the device itself.

Samsung plans to release Galaxy AI early next year, most likely alongside the launch of its Galaxy S24 smartphone lineup in 2024. The company also showcased its generative AI model, Gauss, which will power features on mobile devices starting next year. It is expected that Gauss will play a significant role in the Galaxy S24 lineup.

AI-powered features are becoming a key battleground for smartphone manufacturers. Google offers AI-powered tools for photo editing and enhancement with its Pixel 8 lineup. Apple is heavily investing in AI training, leading to expectations of AI-powered features in iPhones. Additionally, smartphone makers are facing competition from AI-focused hardware products such as Humane's cellular-enabled AI Pin.
