A New Android Skin Overlay: Xiaomi Introduces HyperOS for Xiaomi 14 Series
In a recent announcement, Xiaomi unveiled its latest Android skin overlay called HyperOS, which is set to replace the previous MIUI. However, a new statement from the company sheds light on an important detail for bootloader-unlocked devices.

Booloader-Unlocked Xiaomi Phones to Miss Out on HyperOS Updates
Xiaomi has made it clear that devices with unlocked bootloaders, regardless of whether they are running HyperOS or MIUI 14, will not receive any further updates. Furthermore, the process to unlock bootloaders on HyperOS devices will become more complex. Currently, Xiaomi requires users to submit an application through their Windows app and wait for one week before the bootloader can be unlocked. However, Chinese HyperOS users will now face an additional requirement of reaching level 5 on their community forums, prolonging the unlocking process. Users outside of China will have to wait for an official announcement from Xiaomi on the new unlocking procedure.

Fortunately, if users choose to lock their devices again, they will promptly receive the next HyperOS update.

Introducing a Limit: Three Device Unlocks per Year
Adding to the unlocking complexity, Xiaomi is implementing a new limit of only three device unlocks per year. While this limit is currently exclusive to China, there is a possibility that Xiaomi may extend it to other markets in the future.
When asked about the rationale behind these strict measures, Xiaomi cited security concerns as the driving force behind their decision to prevent users from unlocking their smartphones.
