Interestingly, Nintendo filed patents in March 2020 for a potential AI upscaling technology. These patents, which became available to the public in 2021, describe a process similar to the main functionality of the Nintendo Switch.

The games can run at a lower resolution on battery and get upscaled to 1080p when connected to a power source.
