New Oil And Gas Plan Confirmed by Tory Minister to Have No Impact on Energy Bills

The Conservative Party experienced turmoil as a cabinet minister and Rishi Sunak contradicted each other regarding the government's recent oil and gas policy.

Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho admitted this morning that the decision to award North Sea licenses annually would not result in reduced energy bills for individuals.

However, her statement was immediately contradicted by the Prime Minister, who argued that "the certainty of future licensing will help reduce energy bills as we're less exposed to volatile international markets, benefiting families across the UK.

This confusion arose prior to tomorrow's King's Speech, during which the new plan will be formally announced.

During an appearance on BBC Breakfast, Coutinho emphasized, "It wouldn't necessarily bring energy bills down, that's not what we're saying.

Yet, just two hours later, the Prime Minister posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the policy would, in fact, lead to bill reductions.

But the energy secretary's belated confession that their oil and gas plans won't take a penny off people's energy bills is a welcome dose of reality for the prime minister," stated an opposition spokesperson. "Only Labour will bring down bills by investing in homegrown clean power that we control in Britain."
