Lynk Global Successfully Completes Two-Way Voice Calls via Satellite-to-Phone, Surpassing Rival
Lynk Global has made a breakthrough in the satellite-to-phone industry, providing video proof of the first two-way voice calls using standard phones and its low orbit satellite network.

In April, competitor AST SpaceMobile claimed to have achieved a two-way satellite call to Rakuten Group using unmodified smartphones and AT&T spectrum. However, Lynk Global's CEO, Charles Miller, disputes this claim, stating that there is no evidence to support it.

"I don't think they did it. I don't think it is working," said Miller.

Lynk Global conducted the tests using Samsung phones, connecting the calls in real-time to and from their satellites. The video showcased calls made within the same field, between Lynk Global's headquarters in Virginia and another city in the state, as well as a satellite-based call across two London locations.

In addition to voice calls, the video also highlighted that texting via satellite was enabled.

Last month, Lynk Global announced a partnership with operator Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) to trial its SMS texting service and cell broadcast in the Republic of Palau.
The company patented the technology in 2017 and has been conducting commercial testing in space since 2019. Lynk Global's service is designed to work on 2G, 4G, and 5G technologies.
