Originating from the University of Queensland, the competition's format was created to push early-career researchers to convey their work to a laymen's audience, honing their abilities to simplify complex subjects without compromising the substance.

Today, eight bright PhD candidates from across Ireland delivered sharp, succinct defences of their research endeavours, having first secured victories in regional rounds to represent their respective institutions.

Overjoyed with the recognition, Shanley remarked, “Winning this national title is absolutely thrilling. This contest was an invaluable journey that reformed the way I perceive and articulate my research efforts.”
