Android users can now enjoy dynamic theming for app icons on Instagram. This feature, which was introduced with Android 13, allows users to personalize their home screen according to their preferences. While many mainstream apps embraced the themed icons, Instagram was slow to prioritize theming support.

The themed icons on Instagram follow the Material You design guidelines and utilize the Monet theming engine of Android. This engine selects the core colors from the user's active wallpaper and applies them to various elements in the app, creating a cohesive and contrasting color scheme. However, Instagram did not adopt the themed icon for a while.
Icon Theming Feature on Instagram
During the beta phase of Android 13, there was an option to force icon theming on apps. This feature aimed to enhance the aesthetics of apps that didn't embrace theming. Fortunately, the forced feature did not affect the Instagram app icon.

Fortunately, the latest version, v307.0.0.0.30, of the Instagram app finally introduces dynamic theming. This means that when users update to this version, the app icon will automatically adopt the colors from their active wallpaper. (Google Play Store link)

While Instagram has now implemented dynamic theming, its parent company, Meta, has yet to update Facebook with themed icons. Other social media apps like Reddit, Twitter, X, and LinkedIn have already made the switch. We hope that Meta will release an update for Facebook soon. We'll keep you updated on any developments.
