Humza Yousaf Unfazed by Elon Musk's Criticism

Scotland's first minister and SNP leader, Humza Yousaf, casually dismissed an attack from billionaire Elon Musk. The Tesla CEO called Yousaf a "blatant racist" after watching a selectively-edited speech on his X website.

The edited clip, which was originally shared in 2020, featured a 45-second segment of Yousaf listing the senior public posts held by white individuals in Scotland. This clip was posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) by an anonymous account called End Wokeness, accusing Yousaf of "openly despising white people."

In response to Musk's comment, Yousaf countered with a GIF from the BBC Scotland sitcom Still Game. The GIF depicted an Asian shopkeeper doing a shimmying dance with the message "racists foaming at the mouth at my very existence."

It is worth noting that the edited clip has been shared previously. Back in February, the Reuters news agency fact-checked the situation and found the representation of Yousaf to be misleading. The fact-check clarified that Yousaf's speech aimed to discuss racial injustice and the underrepresentation of people of color in positions of power within the Scottish parliament and government. Contrary to what some online platforms suggested, Yousaf did not assert that white people constituted an excessively large proportion of Scotland's population.
