One of the beloved elements of the show is the weekly group dance performed by the Strictly professionals. However, this year, fans have noticed the absence of Giovanni Pernice.

The Reason Behind Giovanni Pernice's Absence

Giovanni Pernice, a seasoned dancer who previously won the competition in 2021 with Rose Ayling-Ellis, sustained an injury during filming, which has prevented him from participating in the group dances.

In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Strictly had to make changes to its format. The professionals created a 'Covid bubble' and filmed all the routines in August, prior to the start of the competition. The success of this approach led the show to continue with it.

However, during the summer, Giovanni was recovering from an ankle injury he suffered while performing in his show, "Him & Me," alongside judge Anton Du Beke.

Giovanni shared with his fans on social media, "As you probably know, I'm on tour at the moment with Anton, and during one of the dances, I twisted my ankle on stage. I've seen the doctor and physio, and they advised me to rest for a few weeks."

He further added, "This injury also means that I will miss a few of the Strictly professional group numbers. But I need to give my ankle some rest and come back stronger than ever for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, which I'm really looking forward to."

Fortunately, despite his absence in the group dances, Giovanni will still appear on the show, partnering with Sherlock star Amanda Abbington.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.15pm on BBC One.
