However, two retailers, Gigantti and Verkkokauppa, have stated that they will continue to sell Xiaomi products for the time being, as there is currently no ban on the brand within the European Union.

The Background: Xiaomi's Presence in Russia

Xiaomi was declared an "international sponsor of war" by the National Agency of Corruption Prevention in Ukraine earlier this year due to its active presence in Russia. This dissatisfaction with Xiaomi's operations in Finland's neighboring country led Telia to sever ties with the phone maker and refrain from selling new devices. They will only sell the devices they currently have in stock.

DNA stores have also stopped displaying Xiaomi phones and the carrier has officially confirmed its stance against the brand. DNA CEO Sami Aavikko expressed the company's dissatisfaction with Xiaomi's handling of the situation in Russia. The plan is not to restock Xiaomi devices once the current inventory is sold.

Elisa, on the other hand, is taking a more moderate approach. They will reduce their range of Xiaomi devices, according to Olli-Pekka Nokkonen, the Director of Consumer Device Business at the carrier.

Anti-Russian Sentiments in Finland

Finland has a long history of anti-Russian sentiments, which dates back over a century. The country experienced an invasion in 1939, similar to what occurred in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. A poll conducted last year revealed that three-quarters of the Finnish population (76%) hold a negative view of Russia, and over 90% believe that Russia poses a threat to world peace.
