Far EasTone, in preparation for its merger with Asia Pacific Telecom (APT), is stepping up its mobile service promotions. Taipei Times reports that the company is offering discounted plans and handset subsidies to attract more users to its network.

The new LTE tariffs range from TWD149 ($4.67) to TWD399 per month, with a special 5G promotion that includes a free Samsung handset.

Network Integration and Expansion Plans

With the merger expected to conclude in Q4, Far EasTone plans to complete the network integration within a month after the transaction closes. The company aims to close at least 5,000 base stations, resulting in a final count of about 12,500. Additionally, it anticipates a 9% decrease in full-year capex, bringing it down to TWD9 billion.

Impact on the Market

Once the mergers are finalized, Taiwan will have only three major mobile players left in the market. Far EasTone's strategic move aims to strengthen its position and gain a larger share of subscribers.
