In an official blog post, Meta Platforms revealed that the Facebook News tab will be removed in early December, citing the lackluster demand for the service among its users.

According to the company, news content accounts for less than 3 percent of what users see on their Facebook feeds. It acknowledged that people primarily visit Facebook to connect with others and explore their interests and passions.

While Meta Platforms intends to honor its existing agreements with news publishers, it will not pursue new partnerships.

However, Meta Platforms is facing increased scrutiny regarding its relationships with news publishers, particularly in Australia and Canada, where efforts are underway to ensure fair compensation for news content.

Notably, Meta Platforms has recently taken measures to restrict access to news feeds for Facebook users in Canada, following the government's proposal to require technology companies to pay for news stories.
