The parents of a teenager diagnosed with a brain tumour have revealed how an eye test saved their daughter’s life.

Her complaints of headaches and sore eyes were initially attributed to the hot weather and phone use. However, during an appointment with the GP, some inflammation in the back of Molly's eye was discovered.
Optometrist Discovers Inflammation Behind Optic Nerve
The doctor recommended a visit to the opticians to check Molly's eyes for a new prescription. During a routine eye examination at Vision Express, an optometrist identified a concerning amount of inflammation behind Molly's optic nerve.

Molly's dad immediately took her to the local A&E, where she underwent an MRI scan and thorough examination. The consultant later informed them that Molly had a brain tumour and needed surgery at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Molly's Tumour Nearly the Size of Her Brain
According to Molly's parents, her tumour was nearly a quarter of the size of her brain and close to her brain stem, making the removal challenging. Fortunately, the tumour was successfully removed, and Molly is now considered tumour-free.

Following the procedures, Molly is now classified as severely visually impaired due to the tumour. She continues to receive regular consultations with her hospital team and Vision Express, who are working on prescribing new glasses to improve her remaining sight.

Molly's parents emphasize the importance of regular eye tests and extend their gratitude to the optometrist at Vision Express and the staff at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for saving Molly's life.
