These electric vehicles are the latest additions to Volkswagen's electric ID range, which will soon include vans and plug-in hybrids. Despite delays caused by the global semiconductor shortage, New Zealand is among the first markets to receive the ID.4 and ID.5, following Europe and China.

The ID.4 delivers a great driving experience, offering a mix of agility and comfort. With a range estimate of 658km and average energy consumption of 13.5kWh/100km combined, it provides excellent efficiency. Standard tech features include a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless device charging, heated front seats, and a comprehensive active safety suite.

Although the ID.4 has some impressive features, there are also areas for improvement. The numerous haptic feedback buttons can be frustrating to use, and the cabin lacks internet-based services commonly found in other EVs. Despite these drawbacks, the ID.4 sets a strong foundation for Volkswagen's EV journey in New Zealand.
