Case expressed frustration, stating that dealing with the government at the time was like "taming wild animals". In the conversation, he said, "Nothing in my past experience has prepared me for this madness. The PM and the people he chooses to surround himself with are basically feral."

During the inquiry, it came to light that Sir Patrick Vallance had noted in a diary entry that Lord Mark Sedwill had referred to the government as "brutal and useless" and "totally incompetent".
